Observing Frenchmen in their natural habitat, I noticed 3 things:
1) Frenchmen do indeed hang in groups. If there are a mix of men and women in the group, it’s hard to figure out who’s with who.
2) French women in this group who are dating, ahem, courting, a Frenchman, don’t seem to be annoyed that he’s just as friendly with all the other women in the group.
3) Frenchmen are much more likely to start a relationship with someone in their group of friends than say in bars, which are considered more for casual sex.
Dilemma: being an expat and not having a whole lot of friends in Paris, it looks like it’s going to be difficult to seamlessly integrate a group of this kind. I know! I should place an ad on Craigslist:
Thirty-something English-Canadian desperately seeking French group of friends to hang out with so that I can befriend one of the guys and jump into an immediate exclusive relationship with him. If all the men could wear badges indicating if they are single or taken that would be incredibly helpful. I look forward to hearing from a lovely group with a space open. First round of drinks on me!
