Further to my post from yesterday, I’d just like to add a little something.
Are the French also in such a rush to be in a relationship because they can’t bare to be alone?
The other day I was enjoying a mojito in a Cuban bar. Seated at the table ahead of me was a couple. The guy was intent on stirring the ice in his drink. He looked kind of bored and impatient to finish up and leave. The girl was sitting across from him with wide eyed sad puppy eyes and, get this, she was stroking his hand trying to get his attention. Which wasn’t working.
As I watched I thought, they’ve got nothing to talk about. She was desperate for attention and he was pulling away. Then they left together.
It got me thinking about mismatches and cheating. Maybe the French are in such a hurry to be in a relationship that they end up unsurprisingly totally mismatched. Which leads to not being very happy. Which can lead to staying in an average relationship, but cheating.
I’ve heard quite a few stories recently about the French cheating on their partners and it kind of leaves me sick to the stomach. Both men and women cheat. And yet they always come back to the relationship. Why? Why not just leave and start afresh with someone better suited? Or better yet, why not actually date and wait a little before jumping into an instant relationship (and bed) with someone they barely know?
Some things are cultural and it’s hard to change a whole nation’s perception and behaviour.
Luckily, not everyone is like that. But those that are spoil it for those who aren’t because then you have to deal with issues like jealousy, lack of trust and pessimism when you’ve done nothing personally to cause them.
